Lighting Design for the Marine Parkway Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge

As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided lighting design for Marine Parkway Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge (MPB) project.  The bridge is 4,022 feet long with two lanes in each direction that connects Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn with Beach Channel Drive in the Rockaway.  The bridge consists of South Abutment (Spans 1-5), North Abutment (Spans 23-25), Brooklyn Approach (Spans 6-11), Queens Approach (Spans 17-22), Through Spans (Spans 12 and 16), Lift Span (Span 14) and the Tower Spans (Spans 13 and 15).  The lighting design work involved the evaluation of the existing condition and performed lighting design utilizing the existing light poles.   To accommodate the large spacing between the poles, the design of the lighting system required a suitable light distribution to achieve acceptable illumination levels as per standards and criteria followed in this project.  The field survey was performed and existing condition were evaluated.  Also worked with various lighting manufacturers to find and propose the light fixture that fits as per need of the project.  Lighting calculations were performed and lighting and electrical plans were prepared as per TBTA standards and criteria.
