As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed a 100% visual inspection of five rock slope sections along the PATH right-of-way in Jersey City. The project also involved hands-on inspection of unstable areas as required to document the existing condition of the rock slopes and proposed recommendations for repair. The inspections were performed from track level (street level) and the top of the rock slopes.
Five sections of the PATH right-of-way were inspected: Section A – PATH S Track, between C and D Yards; Section B – PATH S Track, from D Yard through Journal Square; Section C – PATH N Track, from Summit Avenue to Baldwin Avenue; Section D – PATH N Track, west of Journal Square; and Mural Wall (Brunswick Street at Christopher Columbus Boulevard). The inspection was focused on joint orientation, joint condition, overhangs, vegetation growth, water seepage, and other factors that may be detrimental to the integrity of the cut slopes. SIE was responsible for the condition survey of the slopes, as well as preparing comprehensive field inspection forms incorporating all observations from the inspection. SIE was also responsible for preparing a Condition Survey Report upon completion of the inspection. The Report included overall rating, increase or decrease in number of priority repairs, and all other pertinent information gathered from the inspection, as well as color photographs of significant elements, complete deficiency location plans, and prioritization of conceptual recommendations for any rehabilitation or repairs.
