As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed a condition survey of the façade of the Holland Tunnel ventilation buildings. The survey included the land and river ventilation buildings in both New York and New Jersey, for a total of four buildings inspected. The project involved a visual and hands-on inspection of the structures, including a 100% visual inspection of the buildings’ façades and roof using a drone and/or manlift hands-on inspections as deemed necessary. The project also involved a 100% visual inspection of all suspended ceilings and soffits, which included measurement and documentation of each ceiling suspension component and the spacing of each component.
SIE staff prepared comprehensive field inspection forms incorporating all observations made during the inspection and indicating the condition of all areas inspected. SIE additionally completed measurements to create report drawings for modifications and building expansions that have taken place since the previous survey. The SIE inspection team recorded field notes, took photographs, and met periodically with PANYNJ to review the progress of the inspection. Upon completion of the inspection, a Condition Survey Report was prepared, including photos, deficiency location drawings, and all information on the condition of the structures gathered during the inspection. All inspection activities were performed according to the Port Authority Guidelines for the Inspection of Buildings, as well as NYCDOB Façade Inspection and Safety Program (FISP).
