MTA secured the services of a consultant to provide scope development, preliminary design development, and production of Request for Proposals (RFP) documents for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and station improvements at three stations on Metro-North’s Harlem Line. The project was to be released as one (1) Design Build package. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) conducted a detailed structural inspection of the three (3) project sites: Botanical Gardens Station (BG), Williams Bridge Station (WB), and Woodlawn Station (WL).
The anticipated BG scope included the rehabilitation of the historic station canopy, structural repairs to the existing platforms and west platform canopy, rehabilitation of the overpass, new platform shelters, and a new entry canopy. WB and WL were complete station replacements. The anticipated scope included concrete platform replacements with snow melt system, two new elevators at each station, new staircases, new platform canopies, and new entry canopies.
SIE inspected each station and evaluated the feasibility of reusing the foundations of the existing platforms. Following the inspections, SIE prepared inspection reports, including any information required for the design of the station improvements, as well as field notes, photographs, and plan logs illustrating and annotating repair locations of defects, defect and repair quantities, and identification of any additional safety flags.
