As the prime consultant, SI Engineering, P.C (SIE) prepared the contract documents for this NYCDDC project for the construction of new pedestrian ramps at various locations within NYC landmark properties. The project was located in the borough of Queens, in a suburban setting. Preliminary investigation for each location was identified by DDC. The preliminary investigation consisted of a visual inspection of the existing topographic features and recording of ground surface measurements to verify availability of space to accommodate the proposed pedestrian ramps. Topographic survey of the intersection corner quadrant was completed in accordance with DDC standards, including ROW, property line, and others. SIE coordinated with public and private utilities agencies to mitigate utility impact during and after construction. The project also required coordination with NYC Landmark Preservation Commission to ensure minimal or no change in aesthetic of the site. SIE prepared design for construction of the pedestrian ramps and relocation/modification of existing appurtenances, while adhering to the requirement of NYCDDC, NYC Landmark Preservation Commission and any private or public agencies with jurisdiction of the site. The work was done in accordance with requirements and standards of NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NYCDEP, and ADA Accessibility guidelines. SIE provided cost effective design solutions for constructing the pedestrian ramps at a complex corner that included various options for the relocation and/or adjustment of existing facilities. Work also included development of engineer’s estimate in NYCDDC standard format, by location, for all work necessary for the construction of the pedestrian ramp and preparation of specifications for any non-standard items the design required to be used.
