SI Engineering was recently awarded a contract for Construction Inspection, Construction Management, and Quality Assurance Services for NYSDOT’s design-build Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvements project – Contract 1. As the sole subconsultant, SIE will support work on this project including new ramps to and from Edgewater Road to provide access to the Hunts Point peninsula from Bruckner Expressway and from Sheridan Boulevard. The scope also includes a pedestrian bridge replacement over Amtrak and CSX train tracks, replacement of three bridges, and ramp relocation for the eastbound entrance ramp. Work also involves the replacement of concrete decks and the repair of other deteriorated elements of the Bruckner Expressway viaduct and ramps. Bruckner Expressway will be widened as well.
The project also includes pedestrian improvements such as a construction of a shared-use path for pedestrian and bicyclists connecting Garrison Park and Concrete Plant Park, as well as local intersection improvements, with pedestrian access components. Additional work includes the relocation and improvement of utilities and drainage improvements.
The Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement Project is a vital step in transforming the South Bronx.
