Project Management Consultant Services to Manage a Public Private Partnership for ADA Upgrades and Elevator Replacements at Various Stations

This project provided project management, construction management, and design compliance services for thirteen (13) subway stations in New York City. ADA accessibility upgrades and station improvements were required at eight (8) locations: Church Avenue and Sheepshead Bay stations on the Brighton Line in Brooklyn, Rockaway Boulevard Station on the Liberty Line in Queens, Kings Highway Station on the Culver Line in Brooklyn, Woodhaven Boulevard and Steinway Street stations on the Queens Boulevard Line in Queens, Junius Street Station on the New Lots Line in Brooklyn, and Mosholu Parkway Station on the Jerome Avenue Line in the Bronx. In addition, elevator replacements were required at five (5) locations: 34th Street-Penn Station on the 8th Avenue Line in Manhattan, Euclid Avenue Station on the Fulton Line in Brooklyn, 161st Street-Yankee Stadium stations on both the Concourse and Jerome Avenue lines in the Bronx, and 3rd Avenue / 49th Street Station on the White Plains Road Line in the Bronx. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction quality assurance services.

Work at the ADA installation locations included rehabilitation or replacement of structural elements including concrete track slabs, track stringers, floor beams, thru-span girders, and all other supporting members within the mezzanine and both platform areas. The scope at these eight (8) stations also included installing new elevators and supporting elevator machine rooms, removal and replacement of existing platform slabs, installation of a new mezzanine control area with various new rooms, and new fare control areas on street, mezzanine, and platform levels. The scope included removal and replacement of existing stairs, elevators, elevator storefront on street-to-platform level, existing track drainage system, platform guardrails, and existing electrical components and fixtures on the platform, mezzanine, and stairs. Existing utility lines were relocated and / or rerouted, and a new footbridge was installed connecting Junius Street Station and Livonia Avenue Station. The project will upgrade existing and / or install station communications systems including CCTV, PA, CIS, Help Point, and fiber optics.

Work at the elevator replacement locations included removal and replacement of existing elevator cabs and all hoist way components, all supporting electrical components and fixtures in the elevator cab and shaft way – including installation of new wiring and conduits – elevator pit components, and elevator machine room components. Selected existing elevator kiosks were replaced, while repairing the existing kiosks to remain. The project installed communication components related to the elevator system and ensured proper tie-in with any existing systems.
