This project involved designing new ITS elements, services, systems, and all related integration work necessary to upgrade, expand, protect, and maintain the continuous operation of the Long Island Intelligent Transportation System (INFORM) in Long Island and eastern Queens County. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided electrical engineering and design services.
SIE was responsible for performing an impact assessment on the INFORM System of routine roadway work, highway construction, site developments, utility work, reconstruction, or other work; this assessment determined the degree of impact mitigation required and a recommended maintenance course of action for ITS field equipment.
SIE was also responsible for providing traffic signal design plans and monitoring installation and successful integration of the signal to the existing INFORM corridor traffic signal system. The work included new traffic signals and / or modifications of existing signals to accommodate intersectional improvements. SIE’s responsibilities included programming and pretesting Model 2070 traffic signal controllers prior to deploying the controller on the street. Local signal and coordinated progression timing of INFORM corridor traffic signals were included in this aspect of the project. SIE provided technical support to construction activities, integration, and inspection of the modified or new traffic signals.
Additional work included providing technical guidance to the maintenance contractor for testing and services of ITS field equipment. SIE coordinated efforts between the manufacturer and maintenance contractor on NYSDOT’s behalf.
