SI Engineering Awarded NYSDOT Cross Bronx Expressway PEL Study Contract as a Key Subconsultant

March 5, 2026

SI Engineering was recently awarded a NYSDOT contract  for the Cross Bronx Expressway Planning and Environmental Linkages (PEL) Study in Region 11. The PEL Study will build upon the Reimagine the Cross Bronx Study, which focused on reconnecting the communities divided by the CBE, and other prior corridor studies and reports. The purpose of the study is to comprehensively assess the Cross Bronx Expressway (Interstate 95) corridor and develop improvement concepts that maintain infrastructure in a state of good repair, provide transit and bicycle / pedestrian priority, improve neighborhood connectivity, expand access to open space, address quality of life issues, enhance traffic safety, improve freight management, and address non-standard features.

The scope involves all necessary planning, engineering, and environmental analyses to fully evaluate previously developed design concepts from prior studies and newly developed design concepts to determine their feasibility and to create improvement packages that can be moved into preliminary design. The PEL Study will also include preparation of a Corridor Plan for the entire CBE corridor within the study limits depicting a list of potential project packages for each of the nine (9) established segments stretching from the Harlem River to the I-95/I-295/I-678 Interchange. SIE was retained as a key subconsultant by AECOM to provide civil, structural, electrical, and traffic engineering  support services.
