As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided complete traffic engineering technical services and direct operations support for Tunnels, Bridges, and Terminals (TB&T) facilities, including the George Washington Bridge, George Washington Bridge Bus Station, Holland Tunnel, Lincoln Tunnel, Port Authority Bus Terminal, Outerbridge Crossing, Bayonne Bridge, Goethals Bridge, PATH Stations, and Teleport.
Specific tasks for this project included determining the design, type, size, and location of all traffic signs, pavement markings, roadside appurtenances, and similar devices; designing on- and off-facility signing systems; performing routine field surveys to assess the condition and functionality of traffic control devices and to monitor facility traffic operations, and proactively identify improvement opportunities. Tasks also included evaluating and resolving tolling/toll plaza, parking, and general operation issues; identifying and evaluating signing needs to respond to changes in traffic demand and to facilitate construction detours, as well as to enhance operational efficiency in general; creating Sign Service Requests (SSR) for the fabrication and installation of signs (guide, regulatory, warning, information), pavement markings, and channelizing devices; developing scenarios and messages and determining locations for Variable Message Signs (VMS); and coordinating with other traffic engineering groups, including transportation technologies and safety, to review and provide input on TB&T work.
