As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed bridge inspection services for the biennial inspection of the Throgs Neck Bridge. Responsibilities included the 100% hands-on inspection of all structural components including the fracture critical elements. This included the inspection of the entire bridge, including the girders / floorbeam / stringers, subfloorbeams and orthotropic deck on the approaches. On the suspended span the stiffening and floor trusses were inspected along with the rest of the framing system including sockets. The majority of the inspection was performed using ladders and picks from the safespan platform. The main span cables were inspected via walking and the towers were inspected with use of internal ladders and identified any noted deficiencies in accordance to tower cell nomenclature. Additionally, the top of deck portion of the bridge included the inspection of the wearing surface, parapets, median, and light poles. Also inspected both anchorages, including the concrete walls and eyebars, and updated the database access file based on field notes. Previous CMR and flag conditions were verified or updated based upon field findings. SIE is also assisting with the NYSDOT biennial report, BDIS update, TBTA narrative reports with miscellaneous report including the paint, wearing surface, and red and yellow zone reports.
