Design Inspection for Hunts Point Interstate Access Improvement

Design Inspection for Hunts Point

As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) planned, scheduled, coordinated, and performed the in-depth inspection of seven bridges near the Arthur Sheridan / Bruckner Expressway junction for NYSDOT. Three (3) of these bridges span over CSX and Amtrak railways and required special coordination and access requirements. The purpose of the project is to improve access to and from the Hunts Point Peninsula and the Hunts Point Food Distribution Center, the largest food distribution facility in the nation. The project addresses structural and operational deficiencies related to the existing infrastructure within the established project limits. Our team conducted a hands-on inspection of all elements of the bridges in order to develop repair/rehabilitation plans. The elements inspected include deck joints, concrete deck, concrete piers and abutments, steel trusses and girders, gusset plates, and bearings. Access equipment, such as man-lifts and bucket trucks, were utilized to access elevated spans. Inspection finding reports were also created, following field inspection activities.
