Biennial Inspection of George Washington Bridge NJ Approach Bridges and Retaining Walls

As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed structural inspection and inspection report preparation for the biennial inspection of 18 Bridges and Retaining Walls at the New Jersey Approach to George Washington Bridge roadways leading to the upper and lower levels of the George Washington Bridge. The objective of the inspection was to determine the overall condition of the structures and to identify structural and non-structural deficiencies.  Hands-on inspections and assessments were conducted, including sounding of concrete to identify voids and potential problems. SIE evaluated various components’ conditions including the deck underside, various steel elements including girders, floorbeam, and stringers.  Inspection reports were prepared, including supporting documents with recommendations, and submitted to the Port Authority.  The Report included overall rating, increase or decrease in number of priority repairs, and all other pertinent information gathered from the inspection, as well as color photographs of significant elements, complete deficiency location plans, and prioritization of conceptual recommendations for any rehabilitation or repairs.
