This project aimed to rehabilitate deteriorated bridge elements in order to improve the overall condition rating for various bridges in the Bronx. The scope of services consisted of all work necessary to improve each bridge’s overall condition ratings, including conducting site visits, evaluating deteriorated bridge elements, preparing general rehabilitation plans, including appropriate Work Zone Traffic Control, developing construction cost estimates, and attending meetings.
As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided bridge inspection and design services for two (2) out of the ten (10) bridges, the Fieldston Road over Henry Hudson Parkway bridge and the Mosholu Parkway over Webster Avenue bridge. The Fieldston Road over Henry Hudson Parkway bridge is a reinforced concrete deck arch system one (1) span bridge, and the Mosholu Parkway over Webster Avenue bridge is a stringer multi-beam / girder system one (1) span bridge.
The scope of work for each bridge included an in-depth inspection of deteriorated bridge elements, including bridge joints, bearings, decks, lighting fixtures and junction boxes, sidewalks and curbs, pedestals, railing, abutments, preparation of an Initial Project Proposal (IPP) / Final Design Report (FDR) in accordance with the NYSDOT Project Development Manual (PDM). SIE was responsible for preparing and submitting the Advance Detail Plans (ADP) addressing the rehabilitation of deteriorated elements to NYCDOT for review. The submission of plans for review were made at the 40% ADP and 90% ADP. SIE performed a visual inspection of each bridge no more than 30 days before 90% ADP submission to confirm the existing condition of the bridge and determine if there was any further deterioration of bridge elements that should be considered in the design or whether to eliminate any items from the scope of work of any bridge element repaired as part of bridge maintenance work. SIE submitted 90% design drawings and implemented the comments in the final plans submission.
