As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided engineering design and construction support services for dam rehabilitation projects at water reservoir sites in Central Park, Manhattan and at Silver Lake Park on Staten Island, NY. The projects included facility planning and design for the rehabilitation and restoration of the dams and associated pump houses, and the removal and abandonment of unused mechanical piping and equipment.
SIE performed the maintenance and protection of traffic design, addressing both vehicular traffic on the surrounding City streets and maintenance of pedestrian access through the parks as a result of possible temporary closures and resulting detours along walking paths and internal streets. One of the early tasks at Silver Lake on Staten Island was the MPT required due to the partial or full closure of an intersection at Victory Blvd. and Austin Place. The work at this location included the closure and capping of one of three (3) conduits used for prior water distribution from the reservoir to the Borough of Richmond, involving excavation, filling, and capping of the abandoned conduit at a manhole at the intersection.
The design work included preparation of 30%, 60%, 90% and 100% design plans and specifications, and resulting contract documents for the site improvements at each of the reservoir facilities, followed by construction phase services.
