SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) is a subconsultant on this project, which involves conducting inspections to assess the current architectural and engineering condition of approximately 1,500 facilities. The scope of work includes performing the building condition assessment survey (specifically the main systems and components), updating the existing database of school building condition information, and determining compliance in meeting various New York State Department of Education regulations with regard to facility maintenance. In addition, the findings of the data, reporting of the results, and the Quality Assurance, Quality Control (QA/QC) being employed on the project is being coordinated with the SCA and must be in accordance with the New York State Education Department reporting requirements. Priced deficiency data from the Deficiency Cost Program (DCP) is also being generated. SIE is also assisting the SCA in identifying and adjusting the pricing methodology contained in this program. Status of previously cited violations is being determined as another component of the work being performed. All the observations and assessments are recorded on the hand-held computer provided by SCA. Furthermore, SIE provides routine quality coordination and meets with SCA oversight personnel on a monthly basis.
This project consists of four-person inspection teams comprised of two architects (or one architect and one structural engineer), one electrical engineer and one mechanical engineer. The architect is in charge of inspecting the building envelope assessment, interiors, site, and building accessibility. The electrical engineer is in charge of inspecting the power, lighting, fire alarm, communication, and security, and the mechanical engineer is in charge of inspecting the HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and vertical transportation.
