As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided hands-on inspection services for 14 marine structures in and around the Rockaways. The inspection findings identified deficiencies in various elements, including steel girders, columns, transverse girders, and secondary bracing, which must be addressed to bring the structures up to a state of good repair. A structural assessment report regarding the condition of all the structure elements, including conceptual designs for short term remediation as well as alternative design concepts for long-term repairs, was provided. Access to these structures included a bucket boat, scaffolding on a barge, walking, and structural climbing. The inspection and report were completed in accordance with FRA, AREMA, and NYCT guidelines.
