This project involved structural inspection for the rehabilitation of the Staten Island Ferry Terminal ramp structures in St. George. The inspection was used to identify and quantify the specific limits of work to be constructed. The major rehabilitation project included the repair and replacement of decks, rehabilitation and replacement of deteriorated structural steel, and repair and cleaning of concrete substructures. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed an in-depth inspection on all eight (8) vehicular ramp structures, consisting of 73 spans (including the spans over railway tracks), that provide access to the Ferry Terminal for private vehicles, taxis and buses. SIE also provided inspection of one pedestrian bridge providing access to the Ferry Terminal for pedestrians. Based upon the field/site inspection, a structural evaluation was performed, and reports were prepared summarizing the findings and repair recommendations. All the utilities, including the lighting standards and fixtures, sign structures, and utility supports were inspected and documented for each structure. All inspections had to be coordinated with The Staten Island Ferry and the Staten Island Railroad.
