As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided resident engineering inspection services for this New York City Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) project. The project involved upgrading water mains and sanitary sewer systems, installing storm sewers, and restoring the wetlands of Last Chance Pond.
A large portion of the work involved Best Management Practices (BMPs) NC-11 and NC-12 at Last Chance Pond. It also included wetland restoration, environmental planting work, nine (9) stormwater chambers, new storm and sanitary sewers, and water main replacement. This project was initiated to eliminate severe flooding in the area and create two (2) BMPs. New sanitary sewers were provided to eliminate existing septic tanks and existing sewers in very poor condition.
This project also involved the construction of new 8,490 LF of storm sewer, along with 90 storm sewer catch basins and the replacement of 35 fire hydrants, 9,200 LF of sanitary sewer, and 9,685 LF of water main. Replacement of approximately 68 sanitary sewer house connections was required to make room for the storm sewer.
