This project involved the installation of more than one mile of storm and sanitary sewers in 111th Avenue between Colfax Street and 204th Street as well as 600-foot storm sewer extension in 91st Road and 221st Place in the Borough of Queens. The goal of this project was to improve street conditions, alleviate flooding, upgrade infrastructure, and enhance fire protection. A total of 2,030 feet of storm sewers were added, plus 1,755 feet of existing storm sewers were replaced. Sixteen (16) new catch basins were installed, and thirty-five (35) existing ones were replaced, along with the replacement of eighteen (18) fire hydrants and installation of four (4) new ones. Two (2) bollards were placed in front of each fire hydrant to increase protection from potential damage by vehicles. 13,790 feet of curbs were replaced, 30,814 square yards of new asphalt were laid down over a new concrete base, and both were leveled to help guide stormwater to the area’s new catch basins and ensure adequate drainage.
As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction inspection and community liaison services for this project. Seamless coordination with agencies and the stakeholder was in constant practice by SIE’s team to successfully complete the project on time within budget.
