As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction inspection for the repair of two (2) drawbridges for NYSDOT in the town of Hempstead, Region 10. The scope included structural steel repairs at the trunnion towers and bascule spans, the rehabilitation of the span lock assemblies, replacement of the traffic gates, repairing / replacing the main motors, brake motors, and auxiliary drive motors, new navigation lights, new electrical wiring, conduit, hangers, and junction boxes. The project also replaced the limit switches, provided a new automatic generator transfer switch, LIPA power supply monitoring gauges, and new forward live load bearings, rebalanced the bascule leaves, provided rehabilitation of the gear rack supports, bridge tower upgrades, safety ladders and stainless steel doors, bridge console repairs, a replacement submarine cable, localized painting, and an emergency turn around in the median.
