As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided structural design review, design drawings, and specifications for the rehabilitation of the piers and underwater pile at Reynolds Channel Railroad Bridge, which is located on the Long Beach Branch at MP 22.1 for LIRR. The bridge is composed of prestressed beams superstructure supporting one direct-fixation track which leads to the Long Beach LIRR Station. The substructures are composed of a concrete cap beam supported by 6-24” prestressed square concrete piles.
As part of this task, SIE conducted a structural review of recent diving inspection reports and as-built drawings to identify all deteriorated conditions requiring repair. The structural repairs encompassed underwater concrete pile repair, strands and rebar repairs, and installation of new pile jacketing and cathodic protection system. The efforts encompassed review and preparation of structural drawings, estimate of quantity, and specifications to be submitted in accordance with MTA, FRA, and AREMA guidelines. Following the design submission, SIE provided assistance during the bid phase and construction support services.
