As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction management services for NYCDEP and the Bureau of Engineering Design and Construction (BEDC) to install water meters in unmetered developments.
SIE provided Construction Management (CM) services for the installation of water meters across several unmetered developments of the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). The project was intended to introduce metering to 115 developments (865 buildings) in Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx to comply with the city’s Multi-Family Conservation Program.
Site assessments were performed through the EE-DSGN3C DES-CM Requirements Contract. The preferred location for installing water meters was within an above-ground mechanical room, within two feet of the development property line, but site conditions occasionally required installation in an outside above or below-ground enclosure. Construction included the installation of water meters, installation of backflow prevention device (BPD) assemblies, installation or replacement of house control valves, miscellaneous plumbing, abatement of hazardous materials obstructing work, and the construction of below-ground vaults or above-ground heated enclosures where installing meters within a building was not practical.
