As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided mechanical inspection services in connection with the capital program managed by NYCDEP’s Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT). The capital program consisted of hundreds of Job Order Contracts (JOC) as well as dozens of discrete, stand-alone ongoing capital projects at 14 wastewater pollution control plants, 95 pump stations, and other satellite facilities for combined sewer outflows storage, in-stream aeration, and support. There were 244 existing construction JOC projects varying from small to moderate complexity, construction costs ranging from $100,000 to $2.4 million, and a completion time ranging from six months to one year.

Installation of Thickener Pumps: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the installation of thickener pumps at the Hunts Point Wastewater Treatment Plant in the Bronx. Our team was responsible for the demolition and installation of the thickener pumps as per the shop drawings approved by the Engineer of Record, as well as any emergency and routine repairs.

Installation of Two Main Sewage Pumps: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the installation, demolition, and disposal of two (2) main sewage pumps at Hannah Street Pump Station in Staten Island. Our team was responsible for inspecting the installation and field testing of two (2) vertical type F pumps and ensuring that the entire pumping system is placed in good operating condition.

Reconstruction of Gas Holder Tanks: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the reconstruction of gas holder tanks at Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Brooklyn. Our team was responsible for providing the necessary labor, materials, and equipment to repair the leak in the existing gas holder tank. The Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is the largest of the 14 wastewater treatment facilities in New York City. It serves more than 1 million people in Brooklyn, Queens, and Manhattan and treats about 18% of the city’s wastewater on average.

Upgrade of Main Influent Gate Actuators: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the modification of the six (6) existing trident actuators at the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Our team was responsible for upgrading the trident actuators serving the operation of two (2) throttling gates and four (4) main influent gates.

Installation of UPS and Batteries: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the removal and replacement of three (3) UPS and batteries at the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Our team was responsible for the removal and replacement of six (6) batteries and the utilization of new cables and conduits to establish the connection between the new UPS, batteries, and existing lighting.

Reconstruction of CCTV System: SIE performed mechanical inspection for the upgrade of the closed circuit television system at the Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Our team was responsible for removing and disposing of the existing VICON CCTV system, including workstations, cameras, servers, and video recorders, and the subsequent installation of a new CCTV system.
