As the Prime Consultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction inspection services for the Drainage Block project in Region 10. The scope of the project included preventive maintenance and repair of drainage structures at 20 locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Improvements to the existing drainage systems consisted of cleaning, repairing, replacing, and/or adding drainage structures and pipes to maintain system reliability and integrity. Work was performed during both night and day shifts, with some of the most complex operations occurring along the Northern State Parkway, Southern State Parkway, and NY27, where inspection activities were conducted in close proximity to live traffic.
Excavation operations required the use of Support of Excavation (SOE) systems for safety and involved full-depth soil, concrete, asphalt, and turf restoration. SIE performed detailed inspections, on-site field testing of materials, and monitored Contractor personnel and equipment to support timely construction completion. Daily coordination was required with NYSDOT INFORM, Highway Maintenance Residencies, municipalities, state, county, and local law enforcement, as well as first responders. Additional responsibilities included field measurements, data collection for monthly and final estimates and progress reports, and preparation of record plans reflecting all changes from the contract plans. All records were maintained in accordance with the Manual of Uniform Record Keeping (MURK), and the project was completed successfully.
