This project involved elevated line structural steel repairs and abatement, including column base repairs, and approximately 2.5 miles of painting, for the elevated structures of the Myrtle Avenue ‘B’ Line in the Boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided consultant construction management and inspection services.
The project limits were from Bent 284, located at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Lewis Avenue, to Bent 620, located at the abutment near the Fresh Pond Bus Depot. The track numbers included northbound (Manhattan) track M2 and southbound (Queens) track M1. Within the limits of the project, there were five (5) stations: Myrtle Avenue, Central Avenue, Knickerbocker Avenue, Wyckoff Avenue, and Fresh Pond Road. Within these limits, the existing elevated structure consisted of two (2) tracks. The structure system consisted of steel columns, cross girders, longitudinal track girders, platform girders, miscellaneous steel bracings, and secondary structural members. Mezzanine floor support beams were rolled steel joints of beams, channels, angle flats, or built-up sections. Track support beams above the mezzanine were supported by thru-span girder construction in all stations within the project limits.
