As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) performed a comprehensive structural and architectural condition survey for recommendations to repair and / or rehabilitate the East New York (ENY) Depot Complex buildings located at 25 Jamaica Avenue in Brooklyn. The complex consisted of eleven (11) separate locations, including the bus depot, non-revenue fleet, paint shop, central maintenance, storage, and hazardous material storage facilities.
SIE performed the structural condition survey for the ENY Bus Depot, which required a comprehensive visual inspection of the entire facility, as well as providing floor plans with noted locations of observed conditions including:
- Concrete cracks / spalls / delamination in walls, slabs, footings, and foundations
- Rust, corrosion, and loose or damaged steel columns, beams, connections, and supports
- Measurements of any significant deflection of floors and walls
- Expansion joints and their ability to accommodate movements in the structure
- Cracks, potholes, or uneven areas of parking surfaces and ramps that could pose tripping hazards or cause damage to buses and vehicles
- The slab integrity on all floors, staircases, and bulkheads and the existing repairs to these slabs
The findings were included in a report identifying all locations, type of deficiencies with ratings (1 – 5), with photographs and captured the “Density of Defect” building systems and other components and subcomponents where conditions are worse for a portion of the component or subcomponent than for the remainder.
