The scope of this project was to restore the aging Amityville Creek Culvert under NYS Route 27A and provide a 70-year design service life. Merrick Road was reconstructed between Ocean Avenue and Grand Central Avenue and was raised to reduce the potential for flooding during severe weather events. Additionally, the project aimed to improve safety and traffic flow by introducing drop-off protection at the culvert crossing, bike lanes in both directions, new sidewalks, and an eastbound left lane at the Ocean Avenue intersection. As the Prime Consultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction inspection services.
The scope of this project included detailed inspections, on-site field testing of material, and other construction activities as necessary, including field measurements and collecting data to submit monthly and final estimates and progress reports, and preparation of record plans showing all changes from the contract plans. Additional tasks included monitoring contract progress by evaluating the adequacy of the Contractor’s personnel and equipment, including the availability of necessary materials and supplies. The project location was in close proximity to Amityville High School as well as a condominium building, so public outreach was a key component of the project.
