The Upper Hudson and Upper Harlem (Upper H&H) Station Priority Repairs was a comprehensive project to bring eighteen (18) Metro-North Railroad stations to a state of good repair. A combination of age and salt due to winter conditions caused deterioration of station platforms, stairs, and associated components. This project assessed conditions at these stations to target and prioritize appropriate repairs to extend the useful life of each component. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction management and quality compliance services.
Six (6) stations on the Hudson Line and twelve (12) stations on the Harlem Line were part of this project. Repairs varied per station but generally included full replacement of track-side and field-side edges, replacement or rehabilitation of piers, spall and crack repair, stair repair and rehabilitation, railing installation, wearing surface replacement, tactile warning surface installation, and paint. At Beacon Station, additional work included construction of a new platform for Track 3. Major work items at this station included splices, anchors, shear studs, stairway framing, platform slab with expansion joints, spall repair at ramp, handrail, and vegetation management.
Under this contract, work also included rehabilitation of two (2) historic MNR station building roofs on the Hudson and Harlem Lines. Roof replacement work for Hastings and Tuckahoe Stations included the removal and replacement / reinstallation of roof tiles, underlayment, fascia beam and board, architectural trim, timber decking, gutters, supports, and vendor signs and lighting fixtures, as well as the repair and/or replacement of damaged rafters. The work also included installation of new roof elements such as new tongue and groove timber decking on canopies, plywood timber decking, and ice and water shield membrane. The project involved painting all overhangs, as well as removal and installation of new light fixtures at fascia beam. At Hastings Station, an existing AC unit was removed, and the damaged roof repaired, along with repairs to damaged ceiling and masonry.
