As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C., (SIE) provided bridge inspection services at several bridges along the Gowanus Expressway. This project involved an in-depth inspection of the Ramp D Bridge, Rapelye Street Bridge, and other proposed repair locations as required. Inspection reports were prepared that included recommendations for repair, conceptual sketches, confirmation of the extent of deterioration, and repair limits. Specific tasks included design of structural repairs, replacement of bearings, deck removal and replacement, resealing of deck joints, and repairs to light pole bases. Further, SIE inspected three overhead sign structures on the Gowanus Expressway between the Prospect Interchange and the BQE Connector. This includes inspection of structural steel in the vicinity of the existing and proposed OSS locations including stringers, their attachment to floor beams, stringer diaphragms, deck, and bearings, as well as columns in the spans where the new outriggers will be installed including base plates and anchor bolts. SIE also performed lighting design services for the new underdeck lighting.
