As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided construction inspection services for this project, which entailed providing routine maintenance and emergency repairs to approximately $300 million worth of ITS Assets along routes I-278, I-95, and the Bruckner Interchange in Bronx County; the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens County; and the Joint Transportation Management Center (JTMC) in Long Island City, Queens. SIE’s inspection staff monitored construction operations of the contractor and coordinated the activities with JTMC staff. ITS assets repaired or replaced include CCTV cameras, Portable Variable Message Signs (PVMS), Highway Advisory Radios (HAR) Stations, HAR beacon signs, video image detectors, ranging radar detectors, vehicle classification detectors, Variable Message Signs (VMS), 20,000+ meters of fiber optic cable maintenance, microwave transceiver set assemblies, splice maintenance, and all electronic installations. All maintenance work was coordinated with the JTMC. Additionally, under this project, a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system was installed to manage all field equipment and spare equipment located at a storage facility.
