The NYC Department of Design and Construction (NYCDDC) commenced a capital reconstruction project in the New Dorp Beach area of Staten Island. This project aimed to improve inadequate drainage by installing new storm sewers, replacing and upgrading the existing sanitary sewers and water mains, improving the roadway grade in certain locations, widening roadways, and installing de-water wells and new sidewalks and curbs.
Work involved the installation of 9,700 LF of new storm sewers, 17,000 LF of distribution water mains, 17,700 LF of sanitary sewers, 319 catch basins, and 75 new hydrants. Work also involved the reconstruction of 34,000 LF of curbs, with the installation of 26,000 LF of new curbs, 175,000 SF of sidewalk, with the installation of 140,000 SF of new sidewalks, and 51,300 SY of roadway. This project also involved significant tree work, such as the pruning, transplanting, removal, and replacement of trees as well as the installation of tree guards. Approximately 100+ trees were removed, 20 trees were transplanted, and 150+ new trees were planted.
As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided community liaison services for this project. Seamless coordination with agencies and the stakeholder was in constant practice by SIE’s team to successfully complete the project on time within budget.
