This project involved construction inspection of structural steel repairs to both the north and south outside fascia girders, first interior stringers, cantilevered diaphragm beams, floor beam, and main truss members on spans 179 through 191 of the east deck truss spans. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided inspection of contractor work, daily log maintenance, record keeping, and preparation of reports.
All work was performed during the evening and nighttime hours due to the volume of traffic on the roadway and the need to close travel lanes in order to access the underside of the deck. Specific components of the work included oversight of the repair and replacement of diaphragms, catwalks, deck trusses, floor beams, main trusses, fascia girders, stringers, gusset plates, and bracings. Repair work was concentrated on the north and south outside fascia girders, first interior stringers, cantilevered diaphragm beams, floor beam, and main truss members in spans 179 through 191 of the east deck truss spans. Miscellaneous steel repairs were also made to gusset plates, wind bracing, catwalk, and utility support members of the bridge.
