Engineering Design Services for City-Wide Analyses of Existing Drainage Systems and / or Preparation of Design of Drainage Plans

To support several city-wide initiatives including resiliency, housing, and rezoning, this project provided analysis and / or amended drainage plans. Assignments under this contract consisted of modeling efforts and engineering studies other than direct amended drainage plan development, including collection system modeling, HEC-RAS analysis, shoreline analysis, CFD modeling, and 2D modeling. Tasks included cost estimates and comparisons, alternative assessments, feasibility analysis, resiliency assessment, and development of phasing plans. Some projects required the installation, maintenance, and / or analysis of flow monitoring devices throughout the New York City sewer system. As a subconsultant, SI Engineering P.C. (SIE) provided Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) services.

Assignments under this contract often had short lead times and quick turnarounds. Additional areas identified for amended drainage plans were  problematic because of street flooding, sewer back-ups, rezoning, or being considered for rezoning by the Department of City Planning (DCP). Some of these areas either didn’t have legally adopted drainage plans available on file or had designs that were outdated, requiring extensive modifications. Alternate routing of future trunk sewer lines was required to determine the most cost-effective and practical drainage system for these areas.
