New Jersey Marine Terminal Biennial Bridge Inspections

As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided inspection and reporting for New Jersey Marine Terminal (NJMT) Bridges, including the Port Street overhead sign structure and one (1) interim inspection of Corbin Street Ramp at Port Newark.

The NJMT Bridges consist of:

  • Corbin Street Flyover Bridge
  • Berth 3 Culvert – excluding eastern 35 ft. berth structure
  • North Avenue Bridge WB over Conrail
  • North Avenue Bridge EB over Conrail
  • North Avenue Bridge WB over New Jersey Turnpike
  • North Avenue Bridge EB over New Jersey Turnpike
  • Berth 50 Culvert – excluding eastern 40 ft. berth structure
  • Corbin Street Ramp over Conrail
  • Interim Inspection of Corbin Street Ramp over Conrail

For each structure, SIE performed a 100% visual inspection of all bridge structural and non-structural elements whose failure could pose a threat to safety or accelerate deterioration of structural systems, with special emphasis on the inspection of the piers and superstructure elements above piers beneath expansion joints. All non-redundant and fracture critical elements, special emphasis details, and all structural elements whose condition was suspect received a 100% hands-on inspection. The inspection also included the top and underside of the bridge deck, drainage systems and utilities, supports of mechanical and electrical systems, and all sign and lighting structures within the inspection limits. SIE developed recommendations for correcting all deficiencies, verifying the status of all repair recommendations from the previous report and documenting all new immediate, priority, and safety repair recommendations.
