Owned by Amtrak and also used by MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and New Jersey Transit, with connections to six (6) MTA New York City Transit subway lines, Penn Station is the busiest transit hub in North America.
As a subconsultant, SI Engineering, P.C. (SIE) provided condition assessment services for the Amtrak portion of New York Penn Station. This project involved condition assessments of the station, including detailed condition assessment of assets in the sub-basement floor, identification and documentation of deficiencies, and reporting. Other spaces inspected included public corridors, train platforms and back-of-house facilities. All inspections had an Amtrak facilities escort and were conducted during normal business hours.
SIE’s condition assessment team interviewed Amtrak NYP maintenance management personnel to document known deficiencies and concerns and add to the observed visual inspection of the buildings. Information gathered via documents and interviews, together with the data gathered in the walk-through inspection, resulted in a detailed condition assessment of the assets. SIE drafted a narrative report based on the field report generated from the data collection system.
